The success of this crime syndicate is partly due to the strict inter family marriage policies. By marriage the Caruana-Cuntrera bond grew even more impenatrable by law enforcement agencies. For example Alfonso Caruana married his first cousin Giuseppina while brother Gerlando married her sister Vincenza Caruana.
