What are the steps to become a police officer.
By picking a random law enforcement police academy the person looking to learn to be a police or law enforcement officer can get a general understanding of the required credentials these police programs look for at the enrollment stage.
At NAPA Valley Criminal Justice Training Center the basics police academy program will take the application of a student want to become a police officer if that person meets the following criteria:
- Graduation from a high school with a 3.0 GPA average. The high school courses must show that the student has strong mathematical understanding such has calculus or trigonometry. Otherwise strength in foreign languages is an asset.
- A post secondary education such has having successfully earned a college or university degree would demonstrate competence and overided option 1.
- Completion of a Post Entry Level Peace Officer Reading and Writing Exam with a test score of 40 or more would also indicate competence for entry into the NAPA Valley Criminal Justice Training Center basic police academy program.
This particular basic police academy program is only 22 weeks in duration and if the first stage is completed successfully the student police officer can continue to stages two and three. The first stage is the basic police training is where the student police is tested physically and mentally. The second stage is police field training and lasts 16 weeks. Where the first stage taught the student the role of the police officer in California society, the second stage prepares the student police to go into California society and uphold the California laws on a solo basis. In the third stage the new police officer is put through a re-learning and refining process of steps one and two.
This entire process is probationary and if the police academy program is completed successfully then the student police is deemed competent enough to apply for work within the California Police society.
This random selection of a police academy indicates the basic approach of most states in selecting and training officers of the law. Most countries have similar entrance requirements. It's a matter of looking into the particular region or country where you live or intend to practice as a member of the police force.
