The Olmec and Mayan cultures found a seperate identity in Izapa of Southern Mexico. This period saw the emergence of a calendrical count which has come to be known as the Long count.
Jenkins has been a long time observer of the Izapa cultures and their monument artifacts. Here he begins by explaning how the 5125 year cycle comes about.
